2024 in Review

If you’re reading this, you helped give Good Lion enough highlights in 2024 to make a proper One Shining Moment montage.
Alas, we want to remain on David Barrett’s good side, so pour something cold/warm and let’s take a left onto Good Lion memory lane.

We kicked off 2024 by collaborating with fellow Wisconsin golf-brand and Golf Digest gold medal winner: Meridian for a limited release putter (that sold out faster than any GLG release to date).

In the world of clubs, Good Lion leans more supper than country: in our club, everyone’s a member.

On Masters’ weekend, to mark our Good Lion two-year anniversary, we rolled out the Supper Club collection as an homage to the old school supper clubs of Wisconsin and the notion that Good Lion is a place: “Where everyone’s a member!”

This also laid the foundation for an informal tour de supper clubs/social experiments with Good Lion Supper Club gatherings in Madison, Chicago and St. Paul.

It’s a beautiful thing when a roomful of interesting people, with no agenda and no itinerary, comes together and connects the old fashioned way. Pun very much intended.

From a cold-call coffee meeting to a full-blown collection almost a year later, it continues to blow my mind that we get to work with professional golfer and phenomenal human being, Bobbi Stricker.

Love of family. Humble groundedness. A love of the game with a perspective that transcends it, are just a few of the reasons we’re so honored to have Bobbi on the Good Lion team.

PS: All of the Good Lion founders have a daughter (or three) and the importance of representation and role models for our girls isn’t lost on us, which makes working alongside Bobbi even more special.

PPS: If you haven’t seen the promo video for the collection shot by the incredible Parka Studios, give yourself a treat and check it out here. Love you and thank you Nate and Matt.

Props also to TPC Wisconsin for letting us run amok on the course and to Paper Tiger for letting us use his beat.

All of this is a nice segue to our inaugural Bobbi + Friends Good Lion Invitational at the beloved Glen Golf Park in Madison. It felt then and feels now like a dream. Seeing a course-full of people repping Bobbi x Good Lion gear, was a surreal moment.

It was a total course takeover complete with homemade trophies, a putt-off for the ages and pint-sized margaritas at the after party.

The whole event felt like lightning in a bottle.

One of the greatest gifts of Good Lion has been meeting so many lovely, generous people. The crew over at Blind Shot Social Club in Madison, has shown us a lot of love from creating a Good Lion inspired cocktail (complete with a mini-waffle garnish) to displaying a bunch of our gear in their stunningly beautiful space. They even have a one-off custom tshirt only available in-store.

Whether you live in the area or not, swing by Blind Shot for some of the best food, drink and ambiance you can find, not to mention the simulator-golf.

Peace to Brent and Michelle for being so hospitable and generous.

I also had the good fortune to sit down with a couple of local legends who were gracious enough to let me interview them.

Firstly, with golf-super-hero Sue Shapcott where she shared her experiences ranging from playing in the Curtis Cup to becoming an award winning golf instructor with Change Golf Instruction.

Secondly, with Freedom Skate Shop owner and avid golfer, Geoff for a wide-ranging discussion on the parallels of skate and golf culture.

Both interviews are well worth checking out:
Sue’s interview.
Geoff’s interview.

If you’re still reading, take heart: I’m almost done writing.
In 2024, I had the good fortune of playing some remarkable courses including the The Ocean Course at Kiawah Island and Sedge Valley.

I even put together some hot takes and hot shots (what the kids call photos nowadays) for your enjoyment.

There were many other highlights throughout the year including a boatload of new releases and our biggest day of sales ever right before Thanksgiving.

But perhaps most encouraging, have been the notes and messages we’ve received from people saying they’ve connected with our GOOD > SAFE mantra in a deeper, more personal way. When it clicks, it clicks and it’s been awesome to see that happening more.

Good Lion is bigger than golf.

2025 is already shaping up to be the noodles: we have our biggest collaboration to date coming sooner than later, and Good Lion will be hitting the shelves at a couple of world-class clubhouses this Spring. Stay tuned.

Thank you for rocking with us as we renew the wardrobe for golf lovers and skeptics alike.

Peace.
